The banyan tree that walks (Tamil)

Pasted in English, narrated in Tamil: how one banyan tree slowly becomes a whole shady forest.

Have you ever sat under a banyan tree on a hot day? It feels like a cool green room.

A banyan often begins as a tiny seed, dropped by a bird on another tree or an old wall.

As it grows, it sends thin roots hanging down from its branches, all the way to the ground.

When those roots reach the soil, they grow thick and strong, like new trunks holding up the branches.

Year after year the tree spreads sideways, so one banyan can look like a small forest.

That is why people say the banyan walks. Slowly, patiently, it gives shade to everyone who stops beneath it.
