Carpet area vs built up area vs super built up

Three area numbers on every flat brochure, and the one that tells you how much floor you actually get.

A flat brochure shows three different areas. Here is what each one really means.

Carpet area is the floor you can actually use inside your walls, the space where a carpet could lie.

Built up area adds the thickness of the walls and spaces like a balcony, so it is always a bit bigger.

Super built up area also adds your share of common spaces, like the lobby, stairs and lifts.

So when you compare flats, compare the carpet area. That is the space you will live in.
