Fractions explained with one pizza

Halves, fourths and eighths, cut from the same pizza so the idea finally clicks.

Fractions sound scary, but you already understand them. Grab a pizza.

Cut it into four equal slices. Each slice is one fourth of the pizza.

Eat two slices, and you have eaten two fourths, which is exactly the same as one half.

The bottom number tells you how many equal parts the whole has. The top number tells you how many you have.

Now cut the same pizza into eight slices. Four of them is still one half.

Same pizza, different cuts, same amount. That is all a fraction is.
